DeafCon at DEF CON!

DEF CON is one of the largest annual hacker conferences in the world, hosted every year in Las Vegas. From Wikipedia:

The event consists of several tracks of speakers about computer- and hacking-related subjects, as well as social events and contests in everything from creating the longest Wi-Fi connection and cracking computer systems to who can most effectively cool a beer in the Nevada heat. Other contests include lockpicking, robotics-related contests (discontinued), art, slogan, coffee wars (not currently running), scavenger hunt and Capture the Flag.

DEF CON 21 is this year's event happening on August 1-4, and this time thanks to Deviant Ollam, founder Dark Tangent and DEF CON staff decided to do something cool for the deaf community:

LIVE TRANSCRIPTION!!!

What's even more amazing is that along with live subtitling, they want to provide ASL interpreters as well! There is a Indiegogo campaign raising funds for exactly that. The money will go to the travel and lodging expenses for the interpreters as they have already volunteered their time and services. Please donate and help make this happen!

DeafCon is not just about accessibility, it's a community within a community! DeafCon provides an opportunity for deaf hackers and anyone who knows ASL to build meaningful relationships. We plan to coordinate meet-ups, hang outs, and even party attendance.

Deaf hackers and enthusiasts: WE WANT TO SEE YOU THERE!!! If you want to coordinate with other attendees, you can hop into our IRC channel and ask around! I plan on attending myself, and I want to meet all of you! Let's make this the best DEF CON ever!

P.S. - DEF CON is famous for its parties! Check out @defconparties and DEF CON's Call for Parties for more info.
